Nails DID. Nail art from Bella Sugar blog.

30 Jan

This blog post is a must if you like nail art!
Check it out here

Bella Sugar took 39 different photos of some pretty sweet and graphic nail designs. They add the perfect pop of colour to your outfit! And they’re all pretty basic and easy to do with a steady hand and a few little tools, for polka dots I’ve used the head of a pin and I find it makes the perfect size circle, you can make it small or big, too. Little paint brushes can come in handy for drawing lines, as well as nail art pens work WONDERS.

Get to it, and don’t forget the top coat!

LOTUS Cream to Power Blush, Rose ****1/2

30 Jan

I’ve got a cooler toned complexion, so anything rosy and pink suits me best. It helps me look more awake and lively, and brings out my eyes a little more. So when I was asked to try this blush I jumped at it. It’s a pretty pink and perfect for a winter complexion…no matter what the season! But even more perfect since these chilly and rainy temperatures are preventing any sunlight from hitting this skin of mine.

Usually cream to powder blushes I’m pretty skeptical of, I’m not a fan most times. I usually feel like there is a greasy film of some sort still left on my cheeks and face. So I usually use them once and end up throwing it out and hunting for something new. THIS is NOT the case with this blush! After I applied it I never would have thought that it was originally a cream.

My only hesitation was that, well, I didn’t really know how to apply it properly…so I used my finger to dab it on and blend it in the end. I’m sure all you makeup artists are cringing right now…but, regardless it still worked well and went on just fine. So that’s a plus for all us amateurs out there!!

Here’s what the website says about the blush!

Cream To Powder Blush is made with all natural ingredients, applies like a soft cream but finishes like a silky powder. Antioxidant-rich botanicals help moisturize the skin, while natural pigments provide long-lasting color for a healthy, radiant glow. Cream to powder blush offers a sheer finish.

Creme to Powder Blush Ingredients: (I won’t lie, I don’t know what most of these things are)

  •     · Mica (CI 77019),
  •     · Silica (Amorphous),
  •     · Origanum Vulgare Leaf Extract,
  •     · Thymus Vulgaris (Thyme) Extract,
  •     · Cinnamomum Zeylanicum Bark Extract,
  •     · Lavandula Angustifolia (Lavender) Flower Extract,
  •     · Hydrastis Canadensis (Golden Seal) Root Extract.
  •     · May Contain: Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77499, CI 77491, CI 77492), Ultramarine Blue (CI 77007)].

$20 for all four and a lovely compact!

Rating Breakdown:

Sensitivity – full star, no sensitivity
Efectiveness – full star, great colour application
Procedure – 1/2 star, I wasn’t sure how to apply it, so I used my finger….
Bang for your Buck – full star, I found it on the lotus website for $20
Prestige factor – full star, works nicely and doesn’t feel caked on and goes from cream to powder.

Recommended Use:
Whenever you want a rosy glow.

LOTUS Pressed Shadow ****1/2

10 Jan

I tried out the Lotus Pressed shadows for an easy daily set of eye shadows. There are four in the palette. My colours are Grey, White, Pink and Brown. These are some of my favs because the colours are so basic and easy to play with and mix with other colours in your makeup bag. I took some photos of just a basic application. My one and only complaint about the shadow is that I felt like I had to add a lot to get and find colour on my eyes. Now, this could also be because most of the colours in my palette are lighter. (below is the colour palette that I have)

The eyeshadow goes on smooth and stays put, it has no scent and feels great on! Sometimes eye shadows can crease into your eyelids and this is something that doesn’t have with this shadow. No need to put a primer of any sort onto your eyes before to make sure it stays all day. These colours are nice because they’re basic and simple and don’t look like you’re wearing a ton of makeup, just something nice and natural. It’s also cool because the shadows are natural and organic, so you’re not putting chemicals near your eyes.

For a regular daytime look on your eye, like I did above on this paper…brush the pink lightly over your whole lid and then put the grey along your lash line, but don’t make it too heavy or you’ll make yourself look tired. Then I blended the brown and white in the crease of the eye to make sure everything works well together. Add some mascara and you’re good to go!

Here’s what the website says about the shadows! (I agree!)

“All natural eye makeup made with pure minerals, infused with extracts. Our natural eye cosmetics provide stunning, long-lasting eye color.”

“4 Pressed Mineral Eye Shadows Our pressed mineral eye shadow is soft, creamy formulation of pure pigments with photonic technology makes it easy to go from subtle to dramatic shades that last all day. Or use as eyeliner, depending on the application technique. Natural minerals combined with antioxidant-rich, moisturizing extracts also help prevent fine lines and wrinkles”

$20 for all four and a lovely compact!

Rating Breakdown:

Sensitivity – full star, no sensitivity
Efectiveness – 1/2 star, I REALLY have to layer it to notice colour differences.
Procedure – easy to apply, full star!
Bang for your Buck – full star, I found it on the lotus website for $20 – not bad for FOUR shadows!
Prestige factor – full star, works nicely and doesn’t feel caked on.

Recommended Use:
Whenever you want to enhance your lovely eyes and add some colour to your day.

Want to try paper eyelashes? via thegloss.com

paper eyelashes

You are setting yourself up for the worst paper cut in the entire world!

But maybe you absolutely love danger. If you do, we have an exciting new trend for you. Paper eyelashes. Like regular false eyelashes, except made out of paper. According to The Daily Mail:

Inspired by the Chinese art of paper-cutting, these intricate creations come in several designs, each with symbolic meaning.

I imagine if I tried these, I’d spend much of the day blinking symbolically, and meaningfully and desperately, because it’s weird to have paper around your eyeballs, but then, I imagine that’s equally possible if I was just wearing a massive set of false eyelashes. If you want to channel this whole Alice in Wonderland look, they’re available at Paperself beginning around $16.

ORGANIC INDULGENCE Silkening Body Lotion ****1/2

3 Jan

I know I’ve blogged about this lotion before, but I hoped that the scent I used before was the problem to me not liking it. I had mentioned in the previous post that it made my skin itch after putting it on. Still doing that. BUT! This time I tried the Organic Indulgence Silkening Body Lotion in the White Nectarine and Orange Blossom and the scent is amazing, it smells delicious. Sweet and citrus-y!

The scent has stuck around longer than the previous time, and I’m ok with that! The lotion soaked into my skin nicely, my arm feels nice and moisturized! I would recommend it to someone who really likes the smell and may not have as sensitive skin. Below is the description from the website about the moisturizer as well as the ingredients. KMS Hair Play – Makeover Spray ****1/2

25 Nov

I’m not a fan of washing my hair everyday and I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one. So here I am writing a review for some GREAT dry shampoo.

I was hesitant at first of how well it works. But, I really like this stuff! Just spray it in and run your fingers through your hair and you’re basically good to go! Works best for blondes, I would say, but I’ve had MANY customers with dark brown and black hair who also swear by this product!

AND it smells AMAZING. Nothing better, smell does matter! KMS is a brand from California that has a range of different hair products. At the moment they are in the middle of re-branding (see new bottle of Makeover Spray to the left) repackaging can be a little bit confusing, and they are discontinuing some products, but thankfully not this one!

Sensitivity – None at all!
Effectiveness – Works fast and works well
Procedure – just spray in and brush through your hair with fingers to blend any powder residue (quick and easy!)

Bang for your buck – product ranges from $10-15 if you find it on sale or not. (if you’re looking for the best deal on it, visit Zennkai Salon locations and info found here) lasts a while for short to medium hair, goes a little faster with longer hair, depends how much you spray and how often you use it!
Prestige factor – smells great and works well, reputable company.

here’s the old bottle, keep an eye out for both when searching for this gem!

Vancouver Fashion Weak.

24 Nov

There’s always been a negative connotation to words above, Vancouver Fashion Week, anytime I’ve heard someone talk about it I’ve also heard scoffs and laughter about how most thinks it’s a joke and that anyone who truly wants to be involved in the Fashion industry in Vancouver does NOT associate with VFW.

Now that’s a pretty scary thing for someone who wants to be in the industry to hear, so many people have been fooled and worked to the bone for little or no credit or thanks at all. A few weeks ago my friend tweeted about a website she found that helps to expose VFW, and the person who runs it.

I truly am surprised that this website didn’t surface sooner if there have been SO many people who have been burned and felt overburdened by working with and for VFW in the past years. I remember going to a show while I was in school and it didn’t seem very put together, the runway was taped down and noticeable, it started late and had musical and lighting difficulties. I felt terribly sorry for the designer. I did have a weird experience with VFW a few years ago, it was the fall after I had just graduated school and I hadn’t really heard negative things about VFW, I hadn’t really heard much about it general, that probably should have been a sign. Anyways, I had some meetings with the man who runs it and he said he wanted to hire me, but never made it official, he had me help out, as a test, when they were looking for models to join the show. It was terribly unorganized and so many people didn’t know what they were actually there for. It raised a red flag, he said he wanted me to help with a VFW teaser fashion show the following week at a hotel, I really wanted to be involved so I said I would. I was in charge of dressing the models and making sure all the accessories and clothing were accounted for after the show was said and done. He said the show went great and that I did an amazing show and he really wanted me involved, but never contacted me after that day to hire me. It was a strange thing.

Most of you are probably reading this wondering what the heck I’m talking about or maybe some have been involved or have been weirded out by it. I just wanted to write about my experience and post the website so that hopefully somehow we can gather people and contact someone in the city to change and actually start an organized, supported Vancouver Fashion Week. So that people who are passionate about fashion and amazing local designers can be highlighted and recognized in a proper way!

Here’s the website for you to check out yourself,  Vancouver Fashion Weak. There are a lot of upset people so some of the comments are pretty intense and silly.

MAC lipstick *****

19 Oct

Now this is a lipstick I love.

I recently bought this exact colour a couple weeks ago. And I LOVE it. It lasts a long time and doesn’t easily wipe off while eating and drinking. It’s a make a few swipes and last all night kind of party lipstick.

This colour is called “Rebel” and it’s a great blend of a berry/purple colour. And good for many skin tones!

“Colour plus texture for the lips. Stands out on the runway. Simmers on the street! What made M·A·C famous.” MAC website.

My rating…!

Sensitivity – full star, it moisturizes my lips and doesn’t irritate them at all!
Effectiveness – full star, noticeable colour and long lasting effects!
Procedure – full star, easy to apply and doesn’t take long.
Bang for your buck! – full star, it’s $14.50US and I think I paid about $18 with tax, for a product that lasts long on my lips and feels good, and also the tube lasts a long time since you don’t always have to re-apply!
Presitge Factor –  full star, smooth, long lasting, nice little container.

No complaints from me. MAC is hands down my go-to for lipstick, and it will now forever stay that way.

Revlon lipstick, don’t do it! *1/2

18 Oct

So, I always feel like I am on the search for a sweet red lipstick. Here I thought I found one in Revlon. Boy was I wrong! This post is here to save you the at least $7 or $8 you’ll spend on a lipstick. Don’t do it, spend a few more pennies and invest in MAC.

This is the exact container and colour of my Revlon lipstick, I don’t remember the name of it, I apologize. But I promptly threw it out after feeling like my lips were dry after a night of wearing it. Or having to CONSTANTLY re-apply it and it smudging all over, and on my teeth (NEVER a good look!!!).

Here’s my rating breakdown of the Revlon lipstick.

Sensitivity – no stars, it left my lips un-moisturized.
Effectiveness – 1/2 star, I noticed the colour, but it sure didn’t stay long.
Procedure – One star – easy and quick to apply.
Bang for your buck – no stars, I threw mine away, along with the money I paid to purchase it!
Presitge Factor – no stars, unless you feel prestigious with lipstick on your teeth!

Overall Revlon lipstick earns *1/2 total in my books!

ORGANIC INDULGENCE Silkening Body Lotion ****

1 Sep

Trying out a new moisturizer can sometimes be an interesting thing. You never know if it’s going to be greasy or too thin to actually do the job you’re looking for it to do.

I tried the Organic Indulgence Silkening Body Lotion in the Cherry Almond scent. I thought that I would love the scent, but I actually didn’t like it too much. It was a bit strong for me, it even had a minty smell to it, which is fine, but all of them mixed together wasn’t for my taste. I used it to moisturize my arms, and I’m actually wondering if maybe there is something in the scent that I don’t react well to because my right arm (the arm I’ve put it on) is actually feeling a little bit itchy and irritated.

The scent didn’t last too long and it soaked into my skin nicely, my arm feels nice and moisturized too! I would recommend it to someone who really likes the smell and may not have as sensitive skin. Below is the description from the website about the moisturizer as well as the ingredients. Check out more products and scents on their website at www.myorganicindulgence.com
